Climate Change through Blogging

Bloggers around the world are teaming up to tackle climate change through Blog Action Day. Originally founded in 2007, Blog Action Day aims to raise awareness and “trigger a global discussion” by having bloggers write about the same topic on the same day.
Lead by Change.org, Blog Action Day has over 9,550 blogs participating in the effort, spanning 150 countries and nearly 13,000,000 readers. Their definition of Blog Action Day: “an annual event held every October 15 that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day with the aim of sparking discussion around an issue of global importance. Blog Action Day 2009 will be one of the largest-ever social change events on the web.”

Now, besides blogging about climate change and the effort to curb future degradation, we took a look around the office to see how else we can decrease our carbon footprint.
First, we registered for the Green Business Program through the City of San Carlos. The Green Business Program, a program of San Mateo County, “verifies that businesses meet higher standards of environmental performance…[and] helps local businesses comply with all environmental regulations and take actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution, and minimize waste.” You can visit RecycleWorks for more information about the program.
We’ve done away with our printers, and have moved our fax services completely online. Our paper files have been scanned and electronically archived. Used electronics and batteries have been donated to the Brittan Acres Elementary School for recycling.
The steps we’ve taken already are just some of the things we’re doing. We’ll be looking for a complete rehaul of our office to make it more environmentally friendly.
What are you doing to help the effort?
